Maelstrom’s Veggie Muffins
Below is our recipe we use for veggie muffins and supplements. These are an essential part of our raw diet plan but can also be a fun way to reward your dog as part of a retail dry/fresh diet too.
Veggie muffin mix and silicone pawprint molds
Our veggie muffin mixture consists of:
1/3 dark leafy greens (kale, spinach, lettuce, etc.)
1/3 other vegetables (squash, carrots, etc.)
1/3 fruits and starches (blue berries, sweet potatoes, apples, etc.)
raw egg (optional)
Salmon Oil or capsules (optional)
Vitamin/mineral tablets or powder (optional, recommended if raw feeding)
Place your mixture in a blender or food processor and blend until a batter like consistency. The mix does not have to be smooth, but should not be chunky like a stew. Once blended pour mixture into muffin tins. At this point you can add your egg or supplements.
Note: if adding supplements, best practice is to fill partway and chill until set then add supplements and finish filling before freezing.
Press in and freeze for 48 hours. We recommend popping them out of the molds and storing in a freezer bag or container rather than staying in the molds. . Using a traditional metal tin, flip over and whack against counter, silicone molds will have to be popped out individually by hand. Maelstrom’s “shelf life” on these is veggie muffins is two weeks.
